If you’re Gen Z you’re more likely to have hearing loss than us older Millennials. And it could cause a big problem in your social life.

It’s natural for hearing loss increases with age. But something has happened in the last years that is changing that.

We’re spending more time with earbuds in our ears, especially the younger generations.

When the volume is too loud, you can cause damage to the hair cells in your middle ear, and the first to go are the ones that hear high frequency sounds.

This can make other peoples’ voices sound muffled.

Or cause a permanent ringing or buzzing sound in your ears called tinnitus.

Now you might think it’s not so bad now. But as your hearing sensitivity naturally declines further with age, you could be hearing like your grandma by the time you’re 40!

One of the most common behaviour changes that comes with hearing loss is isolating yourself from social situations, often without realising.

So whatever your age, turn the volume down a bit, give your ears regular breaks, your social life will thank you for it!
