I’ve thought a lot about whether or not to post a video like this.
But I think it’s important for me to share just how difficult this project is.
And I guess not enough founders talk about just how hard it is to start a company and the toll it takes on other aspects of your life.
It’s been 4 and a half years since I quit my job and have been trying to build myself a pair of hearing enhancers that are not these ugly medical hearing aids.
That’s 4 and a half years that I’ve not been developing a career somewhere else, I’ve been freelancing jobs on the side to make enough to pay my rent, or saving money - I think I’ve spent about 25 grand, all my savings moving this project forward.
I think in a lot of the videos I do, I show the good stuff, the progress, which is obviously the fun stuff to show.
But what noone sees is the weeks or months in between where there’s no progress and it’s full of a lot of self doubt.
Like am I really gonna be able to pull this off?
Can I build a hearing technology brand that is as cool as an eyewear brand?
And I think 90% of the time, I’m confident I can.
And honestly, if it wasn’t for the comments of encouragement from you all on these posts, telling me to keep going or saying you can’t wait to buy a pair once they’re ready, I probably would have quit a long time ago given how difficult this is.
I love then people say “omg why has no one done this before?”
And the longer I do this, the more I realise why there are almost no hearing aid startups - it is such a difficult industry to operate in.
But we’re making progress. I’ve got two amazing investors who are providing emotional support along with the capital to build these prototypes.
I’m not making this video fishing for sympathy or anything
So I wanna say thank you to everyone who’s been so patient and supportive while I try to actually make this happen.
