What Hearing Loss Sounds Like

The most common type of hearing loss is high-frequency hearing loss - that’s what I have.

It’s not the overall volume that is quieter. It’s only the high frequencies that give clarity to sound.

In speech, that’s consonants like Fs, Ks, Ts, and so on - F K Sh.

Many other letters like vowels A E I O U are lower frequencies

So often you can hear that someone is talking to you, but you’re just missing the clarity, so it’s hard to distinguish between words that have the same vowels. Like Peach Teeth Keep Reach and so on.

While high frequency hearing loss is the most common, hearing loss comes in many different forms.

Some people have low frequency hearing loss.

Some might have what’s known as a cookie bite hearing loss.

Others might have a profound loss in all frequencies.

So now you know, hearing loss, for a lot of people, is not just everything being quieter.
